Loco.Engineering DCC Converter

Wireless DCC Train/Multifunction Decoder

Getting Started

The steps below apply to Loco.Engineering DCC converters and custom converters that you can build yourself using the schematic provided at the end of this guide.

  • Connect the Wires
Attach the wires from the track or the wires carrying the DCC signal to the board's DCC track inputs. The input labels can be found on the back of the board. The board supports 8-28V.

  • Connect Power Supply to the MCU

  • Connect the 3.3V or 5V input of your MCU board (e.g., for the ESP32S3 development board, use 3.3V) and to the corresponding 3.3V or 5V output on the DCC converter.
  • Connect the GND on your MCU board to the GND on the DCC converter.

  • Connect GPIO for DCC Signal Handling
Connect the GPIO pin you want to use on your MCU to handle DCC messages to the D output on the DCC converter.

  • (Optional) Reference Voltage Adjustment

  • Use the jumper if you need to switch the reference voltage from 3.3V to 5V.
  • For most boards, including Arduino boards, 3.3V is sufficient.

  • (Optional) DC Power Output

  • If you want to power additional devices using the track's voltage, you can use the board's "DC Out" outputs. "DC Out" outputs have the same voltage as the track but with the direct current.
  • Ensure correct polarity when connecting to these outputs as they supply direct current.

How to read and handle the DCC Signal
